What is yoga? Yoga is more than just physical exercise. In our classes, we incorporate three of the eight limbs of yoga: asana (physical postures), pranayama (breathing exercises), and dhyana (mental concentration). It's our goal to present yoga as a total system for coping with whatever may be happening in your life. The student is invited to take from yoga whatever she or he needs. Corporate yoga classes and mini-sessions available onsite at your workplace use simple techniques to help employees de-stress while increasing energy level and focus.

We teach a combination of hatha and vinyasa flow yogas, with the intensity determined by how students are feeling that day. But, typically, it's a combination of longer-held hatha yoga postures and flowing vinyasa series of postures. Occasionally, when it seems appropriate for the class, restorative yin yoga postures are incorporated as well.

Not quite as physically taxing as ashtanga or hot yoga, most students (unless they are at an elite level of fitness) find that our classes can contribute powerfully to their fitness level. It is difficult to describe the effects of a regular yoga practice without experiencing it for yourself. You may find that you're losing weight, feeling a higher level of energy, increased strength, and greater well-being. Yoga often has the effect of calming us down, making us more content, and changing long-standing habits and behaviors without even knowing we are changing.

Class sequences are designed to engender physical strength, balance, body-awareness, grace, stress-relief, mental focus, and inner peace. And most important: happiness and contentment in daily life.

Can yoga do all this? Even with a once-a-week class, students say they experience important benefits. With a weekly class supplemented by at-home practice, surprising changes are possible. Why not try it and see? And for more about our slant on yoga, visit Rosetta's Chicago yoga blog.
